Volunteer
Get your hands dirty with us
You don't have to be a veteran to volunteer. Our community is veterans, families, caregivers, and anyone who just wants to help, and we'd love to have you.
What it's like to volunteer here
Come when you can, help with what interests you, and learn as you go.
No required time
There's no set commitment of time or duties. Come and go as you please, and pitch in where you'd like.
No experience needed
Every squad teaches as you go. You'll learn organic farming, flower design, herbs, bees, and more.
You're truly needed
We have a very small staff, so most grants and donations go straight into the farm and events. Volunteers make the rest happen.
Find your squad
Pick the work that suits you best. You can join more than one.
Vegetable Garden
Learn organic farming
Work the soil, pull weeds, plant starts, run the irrigation pumps, tend the greenhouse, cut grass, and pick produce.

Flower Squad
Led by Sam Raph
Plant, harvest, and care for our flower gardens. The flowers become bouquets we give out at the VA. Sam also teaches free flower design workshops for members each summer.

Medicinal Herb Squad
Led by Rebecca Vann, Plant Medicine Director
Grow local medicinal herbs like echinacea, valerian, skullcap, lemon balm, ginseng, goldenseal, black cohosh, and chamomile. Then help turn them into tinctures, teas, balms, and salves for our veterans and volunteers. Rebecca also teaches free summer workshops for members.

Bee Squad
Work with our head beekeeper
Raise and care for our honeybees: build and clean hives, bring in wild swarms, split colonies, collect honey, and keep the hives healthy.
Interested? Email veteranshealingfarm@gmail.com and we'll connect you with our head beekeeper.
Tomato Squad
With Craig LeHoullier, PhD, the North Carolina Tomato Man
Our newest squad. Grow and learn about a wide variety of heirloom tomatoes.

Committees
Help without the heavy lifting
Plenty of the work doesn't involve physical labor. Volunteer committees run the back end of the farm. If you have any of these skills, new members are welcome and needed.
